criminal justice system
I would like to start off by stating that our criminal justice system is failing our society. It is to concerned with locking people up than rehabilitating them. There are many people in prison for nonviolent crimes such as substance abuse. It is ironic how our crime rates have gone down but our prison rates have gone up. Political leaders have to be hard on crime to be relected. Our whole society is scared of crime but crime has went down. We are building more prisons in California than universities. Our prison gaurds get paid more money than teachers. This shows me that our society is investing money into putting people in jail instead of keeping them out of jail. As much as it cost to keep a person in jail for a year we can send that person to college. The majority of those in prison are minorities and individuals from a lower class. This shows us that our criminal justice system is very biased. Overall, I would like to see a criminal justice system that is class blind, color blind and one that concentrates on rehabilitation not punishment.
